2. Most carpet cleaners are
good people.
We have all seen the investigative reports on television about the
bad guys in this business. We cringe during sweeps weeks on TV, but
those shows always make our business increase.
Asking a few questions on the
phone can avoid lots of hurt feelings and misunderstandings in
person. Once someone is in your home it’s harder to get rid of them.
Try these to see if it’s a good fit.
“Do your employees work on commission?” If so, will they have your
best interests at heart?
“Is everything included at this price?” Will they try to sell you
protector, speed drying, etc. at an extra charge?
“Will the owner be here during the job?” Nobody wants you to be
happier than the owner of the company.
“Do you have Worker’s Compensation Insurance?” In case someone gets
hurt on your property.
“Does my door have to be open while you clean?” You’ll have to watch
your pets and weather outside.
“Is your equipment loud?” Hope the neighbors don’t mind.
“Do you have to leave your machine or van running next to my house?”
Hope I don’t mind.
“How long will it be before we can walk on the carpet again?” More
than 15 minutes is too long.
3. Go with your gut instincts.
We sometimes get a potential client from whom we get a bad feeling.
EVERY time we fight that feeling we regret it in the end. You should
do the same. If your gut is telling you that you didn’t like
something about the company you called, from how they answered the
phone to the way they answered your questions, you DO have the right
to not invite them over. Remember it’s YOUR home.
