2.
We arrive at our Rug Ranch and begin “dusting” your rug to
remove the compacted dry soil that can eat your rug’s fibers away,
making it appear bald in some areas. It is not unusual to get 20
pounds of dry soil out of a rug before we even begin to wash it.
This is one of the reasons that you should never have your rugs
cleaned in your home. Also, many automated dusting machines (we
won’t use those) are not ducted or cleaned often enough, so they
kick up so much dust that you can get other people’s dust all over
your rug. Not a pretty picture.
3.
Your rug is moved to the washing area where it is washed
using cool, soft water and organic cleaning agents to loosen the
soil that has locked itself onto the fibers of your rug. This
process may be repeated several times until the rug is as clean as
is safely possible. We do not try to be heroes by using harsh
chemicals that may remove stains and leave holes.
4.
Your rug is then rinsed over and over, until it is cleansed
of all the dirt and soap that it holds. It is NEVER put into a
wringer to “squeeze” the water out of it. These machines can often
“squeeze” the nap of the rug in the wrong direction which gives it a
stiff feeling, particularly if it still has soap and dirt in it. It
all gets compressed right back into the rug. That is why we never
use those old-time combination “rinsing/wringing” machines. We feel
that they are not thorough enough for the kind of washing we like to
do. They are fast though, like one rug a minute.
5.
Your rug is then placed flat on a porous drying rack in a room that
is filled with equipment that pumps moist air out. Huge volumes of
this cool dry air then rush underneath and across the face of your
rug. It’s really looking great now. The colors are popping. It
smells like it has been to the spa. It feels soft to the touch. It’s
safely drying very rapidly. You’ll notice that we NEVER hung your
rug on some pole and put it in the heat like a dryer. This is no
accident. Think about this. Do you take a wool sweater, soak it,
then put it in the hot dryer, or HANG it up? Of course not. It would
stretch out of shape and distort it. What do you think happens to a
wool rug that weighs several hundred pounds when wet if you hoisted
it up nailed to a board, and then blew hot air into it? Right.
6.
Your rug is then inspected one more time to make sure
everything is just right. If it is, we dust it one final time and
roll it up in brown paper and deliver it back to you. If you
purchased a premium rug underlayment to protect your rug, we deliver
that at the same time.
7.
Once we
are back in your home with your rug unloaded,
we discuss a few care instructions with you and
leave you with a bottle of spotting solution that is safe for you
rug. We are always available to answer any questions you may have
about how to care for your rug.
